Renal artery Doppler report template
A structured renal artery doppler report template used for renal vascular doppler. It covers 4 sections and 27 fields.
Demonstration content. Review and approve this template with your clinical lead before clinical use. Reference values shown in SonoTez are notes only and are never applied automatically.
Technique
Grey-scale, colour and angle-corrected spectral Doppler ultrasound of the abdominal aorta, both main renal arteries and the intrarenal arteries.
What to include: sections and measurements
Aorta and main renal arteries
- Aortic PSV at renal level (cm/s)
- Aortic diameter (mm)
- Right main renal artery - highest PSV (cm/s)
- Left main renal artery - highest PSV (cm/s)
- Right renal–aortic ratio calculated
- Left renal–aortic ratio calculated
- Right conclusion (doctor-assessed): no stenosis · < 60% stenosis · ≥ 60% stenosis · occlusion · indeterminate
- Left conclusion (doctor-assessed): no stenosis · < 60% stenosis · ≥ 60% stenosis · occlusion · indeterminate
Right kidney
- Bipolar length (cm)
- Main renal artery visualized: origin to hilum · origin not seen · limited
- Accessory renal artery: none seen · present
- RI upper pole
- RI interpolar
- RI lower pole
- Acceleration time (ms)
- Intrarenal waveform: brisk systolic upstroke · tardus-parvus · high-resistance · absent diastolic flow · reversed diastolic flow
- Renal vein: patent with phasic flow · thrombus · not seen
Left kidney
- Bipolar length (cm)
- Main renal artery visualized: origin to hilum · origin not seen · limited
- Accessory renal artery: none seen · present
- RI upper pole
- RI interpolar
- RI lower pole

Writing the impression
Answer the clinical question first, list the remaining findings in order of importance, and keep anything new out of the impression. If a structure was not fully seen, say so and give the reason. See how to write an ultrasound report for wording and certainty terms.
